Paid vs. Organic Traffic

Whether you are just getting started or you have a well-established business, driving traffic to your website and other resources are necessary to stay relevant in this over saturated marketplace. When you are in the process of creating your digital marketing strategy, one aspect that needs to be covered is what tools you will use in order to generate consistent traffic. There are two ways to drive traffic and generate leads for your business, the organic way and the paid way. Let’s briefly cover the two options and how they can both be beneficial to building your brand.

The organic way of driving traffic to your brand is the simpler approach to take, especially when you are just getting started. You can begin generating traffic to your website with an Instagram post coupled with a strong call to action like, “Click the link in bio”. Another way to divert traffic to your website is reposting a positive customer review after they have utilized one of your products. People are often drawn in to something after others have given their opinion about it, connecting a link to your store via a positive review increases the chance that a person will click through to view what it is others are talking about.

While taking the organic approach to generating traffic is the easier method and has its advantages, it does have slight drawbacks. This method requires a lot of time and effort, therefore results are delayed and the return on investment is not immediate. It would be best not to rely solely on generating traffic for your brand organically.

The more preferred method of generating traffic would be the paid approach, sometimes referred to as the “pay to play” method. This requires allocating a portion of your marketing budget to things like paying for advertisement. Digital platforms such as Facebook and YouTube amongst others are great places to start if you want to build exposure for your brand.

One major benefit of paying to generate traffic is the ability to target your specific niche. For example, if you are a personal trainer looking to work with new moms, you can target your campaign based on not only demographics, but particular interests and behavior patterns of someone that may be a new mom.

Advertising on social media is relatively inexpensive and typically provides immediate results, which why I highly suggest investing some of your marketing budget into this marketing tool. Other benefits you can reap from using the paid method of generating traffic include quicker ability to scale, it is easier to track results, and your content can possibly go viral if it gets a large amount of engagement.
