Best Marketing Practices for Personal Trainers

Being a personal trainer by trade can be full of challenges. Coordinating schedules with current clients, constantly searching for additional clients, managing your family and personal time, the list goes on and on. When talking to most personal trainers, one thing that I have found to be a common challenge is the ability to apply effective marketing tactics in order for them to scale their business. As a seven year personal training vet, I have used several different tactics in order to bring in new clientele. This is a short list of the best marketing for personal trainers to bring in new clients.

Create content (a lot of it):

Whether you are just starting out, or you have been training for a long time, producing content should be a primary focus of your marketing efforts. Creating content is the best free marketing tool for personal trainers to utilize with social media. If nobody sees you or any of your work, bringing in clients will be a difficult task. Create a content schedule for all of your social media channels to include both photos and videos. Content to post can include, but not limited to:

  • Workout routines
  • Sample Meal Plans
  • Preferred workout supplements
  • Exercise Tips

Get reviews & referrals:

After working (and getting results) with a client, ask for both a review and a referral. Having a list of client reviews can be the deciding factor between a potential client leaving your website or giving you a call to schedule a session. Furthermore, always ask clients for referrals. Word of mouth marketing may be the most powerful marketing tool. If you can produce client results, and have them vouch for your work, their friends and colleagues will want to join in on the action.

Become discoverable online:

Register to online referral services that provide trainers and fitness professionals with warm leads of people who are already seeking services. This is especially a good tool to use for those who aren’t very good at sales.

Writing blogs and adding links back to your website is another method that can be used to increase the chances of you landing new clients. Blogs can showcase your knowledge and expertise on a particular topic, which ultimately builds trust with consumers. People spend money with those they know and TRUST.

Collaborate:

Marketing a personal training business can be tough without the right team and support. Teaming up with other professionals in your industry is a great way to get your face in front of a new audience that is interested in what you have to offer. The name of the game is building your overall brand, so you want to come across and impact as many people as you possibly can.
